Children with medical conditions or disabilities

At BabycareAdvice.com we provide information and advice for parents of WELL babies and children; this includes children with medical conditions and disabilities. In other words, we DON'T provide advice regarding the care of SICK children.

We understand that a child with a disability or medical condition is NOT excluded from problems that commonly affect all children. Provided your child is WELL you may find our consultation service very helpful.

Although we DO NOT advise on the treatment or management of your child's medical condition or disability (we leave that to your child's medical specialists), we may be able to assist you with parenting advice on how to effectively manage behavioral difficulties your baby or child may be experiencing (that MAY OR MAY NOT be related to your child's condition or disability.) This includes ...

  • persistent crying
  • feeding difficulties
  • sleeplessness or wakefulness

These behaviors are frequently blamed SOLELY on a child's medical condition or disability. HOWEVER difficult or distressed behavior often has BOTH a medical and behavioral basis. For example, a child may develop feeding or sleep difficulties as a result of severe discomfort from heart burn (due to gastro-esophageal reflux) but the behavior itself may continue long after the child's discomfort has been successfully treated with the use of medications.

How we can help!

During a consultation we will explain how you can recognize the subtle variations in both the TIMING and INTENSITY of your child's behavior that would indicate whether his/her behavior is directly related to the medical condition OR due to other reasons. We can also provide parenting information and advice on how you can effectively manage behavioral difficulties (as mentioned above) taking into consideration the possible impact of your child's condition or disability.

In other words, we leave the treatment of your child's condition or disability to his/her doctors, our focus is on resolving behavioral difficulties within the CONTEXT of your child's medical condition or disability.

If you're not sure whether our service can help with your child's individual problem, feel free to drop us a line at info@babycareadvice.com.
