Storing and traveling with formula

Storing formula

Bacteria needs 3 things to flourish: moisture, food and warmth. Your baby's formula provides all these things. To restrict the growth of bacteria...

  • Cover and store any formula, you prepare in advance, in the body of your refrigerator, not in the door.
  • Don't keep made-up formula for more than 24 hours, even though it's been refrigerated.

Safety Tip! Bottles of prepared formula should not be left on benches until used. Bacteria flourish on moisture, food and warmth. Storing formula in the refrigerator helps to restrict the growth of bacteria.

Traveling with formula

Don't carry warm formula, as bacteria can quickly grow in the warm milk. If formula is prepared in the bottle, ensure that the contents are icy cold and transported in an insulated container and only heated when needed.

Unless you have access to a refrigerator while you're out, it's best to take the bottle of boiled water and add the powder at the last minute. (Measure the correct number of scoops into a small container to take with you).
