Refusing Solids

IS FEED TIME A BATTLE?

Do you prepare all sorts of wonderful nutritious food for your little one only to have her refuse to eat anything? OR are you finding she'll only eat certain foods? This can be very worrying as a parent, because you know solid foods are an important part of a balanced diet for a child.

What you need to know...

Food refusal for a healthy thriving child can either be one the simplest feeding problems to solve OR one of the most complex. A common reason for a healthy, thriving child to refuse food is because she's filling up on milk (breast or formula) and there's not much appetite left for solids. Take a look at our article on Solids - feeding difficulties for some more information on this topic.

Fussy, picky eaters can cause just as many frustrations for parents. No doubt others have commented "Don't worry, just let her eat what she wants". But you do worry. Like all parents, you want to provide the best for your child and you know what she wants to eat is not always the best.

It doesn't have to be like this!

If your child is NOT gaining adequate amounts of weight, then she needs to be seen by a doctor to rule out any physical problem or medical condition for her feeding behavior.

However... for healthy, thriving (yet determined) child, there's rarely a physical cause for eating problems. (Even vomiting can be a learned behavior and is not necessarily due to a physical problem). If your child is healthy and thriving, then we can help with those tricky feeding problems where it's difficult to figure out just what is going on.

AT LAST ADVICE THAT WORKS!

We offer no magic cure or mystic concoctions. Our feeding advice is based purely on an understanding of child psychology, which allows us to look at the problem through a child's eyes. Once explained, you will find our advice makes good sense and focuses on practical ways you can encourage a change in your child's eating behavior.

Further still...

As soon as possible following a consultation we will email you an individualized feeding plan, specific to your child's problem, which will outline the information we discussed. We will also provide follow-up support by email for a week following your consultation to make sure our advice is working.
